We will be starting back with our patients in ASELSI and Canilla in the next week. Before we do, here is one more sample of what a rehabilitation promoter might experience during a class on hand washing. After learning when and how to wash your hands and how to teach someone else the same things, we might have some case studies to review.  How would you do?

Case 1

Veronica is 11 months old with Down Syndrome.  The mother is changing her diaper in the clinic.  You notice that afterwards she does not wash her hands and then starts to get some food together to give to Veronica.

1. What concerns do you have about this situation?  
2. What do you need to teach the patient/family member?  
3. Demonstrate how you will do this, including appropriate communication and respect to those involved.

Case 2

You are doing a house visit with Carlos, a young man that broke his leg during a car accident.  As you enter the house, his caregiver is about to change the dressing.  She immediately begins to change the bandage.  When she is done, she puts everything away and then helps Carlos get more comfortable in the bed.
