Walking through the zoo with my family this week I noticed the position of a gorilla, alone with his back turned towards the curious observers. I wondered if he tired of the gaze of the on lookers? Did he just want to have some time and space to figure things out? What was the reason for his behavior? It turns out gorillas usually live in groups of six to twelve. Males usually go off and live solitary lives because they tend to be shy by nature.

After six weeks of ups and downs, planned and unplanned events, I find myself reflecting upon the state of my heart and soul. The gorilla stirred something in me that day. The position of the gorilla reminded me of the following things:

1. There are times I need to get away in solitude, in silence, as I had the opportunity to experience earlier this month.
2. Other times I just need to turn my gaze away from all the noises and distractions, the observers, and direct my thoughts to Him. 
3. I can find the same solitude and silence in the inner sanctuary of my heart all throughout the day.
4. I can cease striving and know that He is God.
