Can You Train Local People To Provide Basic Rehabiliation ​Services?

When Sharon Harvey, RN/co-founder of ASELSI, shared the need to train local workers in Chichicastenango to meet the needs for basic physical, occupational, and speech therapy services for children with disabilities to a group of professionals, they did not think it would work. After all, it takes years of training to learn these skills. How can you teach someone with no more than a third-grade education to provide basic rehabilitation services for children with disabilities? Here I share how we discovered it is not only possible, but it works.
