Shout-out to all the co-laborers in Christ
The transition into a new year is filled with mixed emotions. I find myself reminiscing and looking back, thankful for what has been and longing for what could be. I hope to learn from past mistakes and failures and move forward with things well done. At the same time, I’m excited about returning to a more regular routine after a holiday break and setting up new plans and goals for the year. Father, where are we going?
Our local workers, now called rehabilitation promoters, will return to working with their patients this week. I’m anticipating catching up with them and hearing what plans they have for the coming year and how we can better serve them.
But before we get caught up in the things He has called us to do, I want to stop and give a shout-out to you, my co-laborers in Christ. I thank God for your faithfulness in praying and giving. I thank God for your support and encouragement. I thank God for his demonstration of love and generosity through each of you.
At the same time, I thank God for the amazing people and ministries He allows me to work with. I won’t name names as I fear missing someone, but please know I am grateful for each of you.
As I write this, I am reminded of the thousands of other faithful servants of God, people I don’t even know, the people and ministries that may never get the cheers of others, a story printed in a newsletter, or the chance to share with a church or a small group. Yet, day in and day out, they faithfully follow and serve the Lord.
I think of the stay-at-home mom, rearing her children in the ways of the Lord, the business person who brings truth, light, integrity, and sound work ethic into all his daily interactions, the university professor who sees her opportunity to teach students as an opportunity to be a witness for Christ, and so many others serving all over the world faithfully.
I think of the story of the woman who spent years in China, feeling she had failed as missionary. She only discipled one person. How much press would that get her in our church today? Her one disciple: Watchman Nee.
Wherever you are today, know that God sees you. He delights in you. You are not alone. Do all that you do as unto the Lord. He is the One that truly knows how big or small each act of obedience is. Do not grow wearing in doing good. It may go unnoticed by others, but it doesn’t go unnoticed by Him. So keep doing good; in due time God will reward you for what you’ve done. Continue on faithful servants. I’m cheering you on.

January 8, 2018Jenn, and other laborers in the field, we hold you in prayer as you work for the good of others and share God’s love. Not all of us can be in the field with you, but we support you and encourage you to “do all you can, for as many as you can, for as long as you can”…to paraphrase John Wesley. Sending love and prayers as you start this new year!
