You are called into your director’s office to learn your position is being terminated. You receive an unexpected call that a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer. Your coworker or spouse is on your last nerve. Your ministry is running short on funds and you’re not sure you can cover everyone’s salaries. Your children don’t listen to you and you can’t handle it anymore. You’re feeling overwhelmed with the pressures and responsibilities of life. You’ve just had a rough day.  Nothing seems to be going right.

Do any of these sound familiar? What do you do? Where do you go when life doesn’t go as expected? 

Do you reach out to a friend or trusted counselor for advice? Does retail or food therapy work for comfort? Does a TV, movie or book help you escape? What do you do? Where do you go?

In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says the following, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest (NLT).” Did it strike you as it did me? Come to me. 

Come to me: 

• The author and perfecter of your faith.
• The one who gave you life and life abundantly.
• The one who sees and cares for you.
• The one who made and formed you.
• The one who knows your beginning from your end.
• The one who delights in you.
• The one who rejoices over you.
• The one who called you by name.
• The one who has given you everything you need for life and godliness.
• The one who knows you completely and fully.
• The one who has great plans for you.

I don’t know what you’re experiencing today, but I encourage you to look to Him. Trusted friends and counselors that lead us back to Him are great too, but let’s purpose to lift our eyes to the one who knows, who sees, and cares for us. What will He teach us today about entering His rest and following Him?

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33 NLT)
