Meet Sandra
Sandra first started working with us at the therapy program in Chichicastenango after completing her training in 2010, training, I was surprised to learn, she wouldn’t have come to on her own. As we talked about how each of our staff members decided to participate in one of our trainings, I never thought Sandra hadn’t come of her own volition. She says the thought of working with children with special needs scared her, but her pastor kept mentioning it to her, so she decided to come. We are sure glad she did!
Nearly eight years later, she continues to work with us and loves the children and families she serves. After a short absence last year, she came back, having been heartbroken over her separation from working with us. The time away only made her heart grow stronger for the work.
Before Shes joined our team, Sandra often assumed the leadership responsibilities in my absence. She helped me find my way to many patients’ homes and much more. Her leadership skills were evident, even in the trainings. She often organized study groups and meals. Some of those skills were there but had further developed years before when she completed ASELSI’s Bible school. She faithfully serves with us and in her church.
Sandra is a faithful servant, often helping us with extra tasks. She does a great job shopping for gifts for visitors, much to Shes’ delight and mine. She not only can pick just the right gift, but she gets the colors right, too.
What I love most about Sandra is her heart. As we pray for patients before we start our day, I can feel her love and compassion for each one. Sometimes it comes out in tears as she cries out for them. Sandra, like the others, is a vital part of our team, bringing her leadership, faithfulness, love, and compassion.
