El único hombre
Continuing our series about our team of local workers in Guatemala, this week I’d like to introduce you to Jose.
Jose returned last year after taking some time away to pursue other things. Instead of returning to work with children as he had before, he is now helping us with our adult patients. His physical education background, as well as his ability to speak the local dialect of K’iche, are great assets to the team.
Being the only male currently working in therapy, Jose is outnumbered in our department. That might be changing, but that’s a post for another day. He doesn’t seem to mind, even if we lovingly tease him from time to time. He has found his place and is a great return addition to our team.
We saw a change in Jose when he returned last year. He demonstrates an increased depth of character and devotion. Like our other rehabilitation promoters, he works only part time with us. When he is not with us, he works as a physical education teacher for a private school. Juggling a few jobs and his personal life isn’t always easy, but he does it well. He had to work in the morning of our first day back, so he missed my sharing about each person; however, he committed to come in to help get things ready in the afternoon, allowing us to finish up the physical set up that day.
When I look at Jose, I see a desire to learn and grow both in knowledge of the things to do for his job and in the ways of God. I’ve seen strength and peace that only come from the Lord. We are thankful for the work God is doing in and through this young man. We know there are great things in store as Jose continues to follow Him.
