DECISIONS
….sometimes we make them with little effort or thought, other times we struggle for the answer.
….sometimes we make them thoughtlessly, other times we run from them.
Decisions can empower or destroy.
Decisions can be based on misunderstandings, fear, hurts, reality, insecurities or the Truth.
Regardless, they are always there; from the simple to complex; from the mindless to the agonizing.
And what I’ve encountered this week is, there are just some decisions I wish I didn’t have to make. For example, “What to do with a family that wants to get more medical tests or medicines, but we cannot do anything to help if the tests reveal the child needs something more.” Or, “Who, of all those, that seek our assistance both in time, finances, and other resources, will we help? With limitations in time, resources, and personal, when do we say yes and when do we say no?” And how do you deal with the decisions you can’t control. For example, the three children that have died this year because they couldn’t get a needed surgery until 6 or more months later; they died waiting for the surgery.
It’s easier to ignore these decisions when they don’t have a face or a name or their numbers seem too many to count. But each day, here in Guatemala, we know the names and we see the faces. It’s just not a number or a static, it’s a person and family we know. These are some the decisions I face.
