What’s their story?
This week as we waited for our new roommate, Carol, I was captivated by all the different people exiting the airport; some were alone, others were with their families, and some were with groups. Each had a different response and welcome. Some looked around lost, others were quickly greeted with a loving embrace, and others quietly walked away.
As I watched I started to wonder, “What’s their story?” Was the family next to me just reunited with their son, and his new family, they hadn’t seen in several years when he left to seek work in the States? Who were the people in the blue shirts and what are they doing? Why were the two children traveling alone or were they alone?
Countless other people passed through before Carol arrived and I realized they each had a story. What was it? And why was I suddenly intrigued with their story?
The next morning as I continued to reflect on the stories, I realized how often we’ve (or maybe just I have) missed the opportunity to know somebody because I haven’t taken the chance to hear their story. Maybe I heard something about them or determined something about them by something I heard or saw. And through that, made my decisions rather than really hearing their story. And maybe many have done the same in knowing God, they’ve come to false decisions because of things they’ve seen or heard without really knowing His Story. It reminded me of the great opportunity, we have, to hear other’s stories. In their story, is an opportunity to see and or share His story.
What would happen if I took the time to really know and hear others’ stories? How might this be used to share or discover more of His story?
I’m looking forward to discovering and understanding more of other’s stories and ultimately, The Story.
